About the Club

Thornbury's local Art Club started as a painting class within the Thornbury & District Community Association some 38 years ago, and is now a thriving and fully independent club, meeting three times a week in the Armstrong Hall Complex, Chapel Street.

Membership of the Club is open to anyone aged 16 years and over, non-artists, beginners, amateurs and professional artists alike, on acceptance and payment of an annual subscription of currently £15. For this Basic Membership Fee, members are entitled to attend talks, slide shows, and painting demonstrations that are held free of charge in the Cossham Hall on the first Wednesday evening of each month, and other social functions included on the Membership card. In addition to this Main Programme, a separate programme of outdoor painting sessions, open to all members, is arranged for the summer. Newsletters are sent to all members giving the essential information

Studio painting sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Bakery Annexe, and the club is introducing an extra session on Tuesday afternoons from September. Studio numbers are restricted to 21 people, the maximum the room can comfortably hold, so members are requested to opt for a specific Studio group.

The Club organises annual Spring and Autumn Exhibitions to which all members may submit entries. Full details are supplied before each exhibition by the Exhibition Secretary.

Workshops are organised throughout the year, led by experienced tutors, for a reasonable fee. These are open to all members on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Painting from Life Models can also be arranged, for an additional fee, when sufficient numbers make this viable.

The Club has a selection of training material available to members. There is also a Mount Cutter and Framing Equipment which can be used at the Annexe, by arrangement during Studio sessions by any member, with supervision if required.

A full programme of events is issued to every member, on payment of the basic subscription at the beginning of the year. Any additional information is circulated through this web site, newsletters and on the Notice Board in the Bakery Annexe. The Club AGM is held in February.
